257 | No more tangled up earbud wires

No matter how carefully you place a pair of earbuds into your pocket, they emerge in a knot.

Scientific research (dataset: 3415 trials) has shown that strings shorter than 0,5 meter never tangle, buts as a string gets longer, the probability of knots shoots up sharply.

Follow-up research (dataset: 12000 trials) shows that by connecting the plug and the buds (so that the wire forms a loop) reduces the change of knots by a factor of 10.

Experience from rescue squads (who hang from cliffs and helicopters, where tangled rope can prove fatal) provides the best approach: don't roll up the wire, but instead put one end of the string in your pocket, and then feed the rest in (keeping the ends away from each other).
